In February, the Affluence Investment Fund received a 5 Crown FE rating*, the highest result possible. The Fund only recently became eligible, having celebrated its 3-year anniversary in late 2017. FE is a global fund rating and research agency.

FE Crown Fund Ratings are a quantitative measure covering hundreds of thousands of investments that FE collect data on worldwide. This includes thousands of managed funds available in Australia.

Here is how FE explain their crown rating system works:
“FE Crown Fund Ratings enable investors to distinguish between funds that are strongly outperforming their benchmark and those that are not.

The top 10% of funds are awarded five FE Crowns, the next 15% four Crowns and each of the next remaining three quartiles are given three, two and one Crown(s) respectively.

Rebalanced twice a year in February and August, the rating takes into account three key measurements to derive a fund’s performance: alpha, volatility and consistently strong performance.

FE Crown Fund Ratings are frequently used by professional advisers to screen for the best performing funds in a sector and at a factsheet level are used as part of an adviser’s paper trail to show thorough and rigorous research has been undertaken.”

This means the FE Crown rating takes into account not just returns, but also consistency.
